Shari D. Bihms

On April 6, 1985, Sharlyn Gentry, a beautician, gave birth to a baby girl and named her Shari Dewan Bihms. Home was in the Independence Heights on the North side of Houston, Texas, until Sharlyn decided to move to the suburbs when Shari was 15. Battling image insecurities, peer pressure and the lack of a steady father figure, Shari grew confused about love and the people who taught her to do so.

She remembers feeling “something indescribable” when her grandmother introduced her to her first love, Jesus Christ at the age of 7. Despite her young experiences of life that could have led her to a path of self- destruction, she knows that something bigger than anything or anybody had ever seen- GOD- touched her life.

Shari’s innate desire to beat all the odds that society had already written for her led her to excel above average in her studies. She has years of training in ballet, jazz, tap, piano, martial arts, commercial modeling and cheerleading. Her mother exposed her to culturally diverse extracurricular such as plays, museums, road trips and plane travel to at least 20 different states by the age of 16. Her mother’s greatest wish for Shari was only to graduate high school without having a baby. She is still amazed at how much Shari has opened her mind far beyond what she ever imagined and knows that the best is yet to come!

Shari believes that NOTHING of substance in life is worth having if it comes to you easily. She is a proud alumnus of the Booker T. Washington High School & the High School for Engineering Professions’ (2003). She fortunately holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice (Howard University, 2007) and a Masters of Arts degree in Counseling (Prairie View A&M University, 2008). In 2008, Shari was led to dedicate her gifts and talents to one of her passions (children) and was afforded the opportunity to teach Reading and English at M.C. Williams Middle School.  Shari furthered her education as a graduate of Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law. She also studied International Law abroad at the University of the Western Cape School of Law in Cape Town, South Africa (Summer 2010). Shari humbly received her Juris Doctorate in May of 2012 and a member of the State Bar of Texas since 2013.

Shari founded The Lady League in 2013 for girls 8+ and later added "Gents" for boys.  The Lady League & Gents, Incorporated was formed as a non-profit in 2014.  Shari was on a personal mission to refine underserved youth by building character and confidence spiritually, mentally, physically, and socially in order to develop adults equipped with substantial skills necessary to successfully live in this world.  Her goal is to build a team of adult professionals committed and dedicated to the vision of increasing the population of  well rounded and well behaved youth throughout the United States and even internationally!
